Together we rise

About the Land

Prairie’s Edge is located on 40 acres, overlooking Humboldt Bay and the Pacific Ocean on unceded territory of the Wiyot people. There are three primary ecosystems on this land: the coastal redwood forest transitions into the inland fir and hardwood forest with part of a natural prairie at the top of the property. The biodiversity of these three ecosystems create a unique array of animal and plant life. Elk herds roam freely through the grasslands and forests throughout the property while Red Tail Hawks soar above the prairie zones.

This land offers an abundance of water, wildlife, and agricultural areas. We immediately recognized the peacefulness and tranquility when we first saw the land. These qualities make Prairie's Edge an ideal place for personal rejuvenation, ecological restoration and community events.

Alpaca roam the upper property while our livestock guardian dogs keep them and our primary farming and living areas safe from predators. We have begun the initial steps in establishing regenerative farming, agroforestry and silvo-pasture systems.

Over the past 4 1/2 years we have built small farm buildings, installed 20,000 gal more water storage, put in an 11.2 Kilowatt solar system, and extended the electrical and water lines in order to accommodate future partners needs.

Mission Statement

Prairie’s Edge Permaculture Educational Farm is a place where people come together to learn, practice, and teach the skills and technology needed to adapt to the challenges current and future generations face.

Through our workshops and events we demonstrate how to heal our relationship with the land and each other as we create highly productive food, forest, and living systems woven into the unique landscapes of the Humboldt Bay Area.
